I have hurt my back and sustained quite a few njuries whilst gardening. Things like smacking myself in the chest when a load fell off my trolley; losing control of a wheel barrow full with a too heavy load; pruning with my petrol-driven pruner usually aggravates my back; digging with my rotary hoe has saved me a lot of grief compared to the old digging fork..but sometimes one has to go old school to turn the earth properly; and the list goes on and on.
Anyway, last week i visited the physio on Tuesday and everything was pretty good. He worked on my quadratus lumborum (QL) and lower back to help with my sore glutes. He did find a sore spot in my QL and worked on that, but everything was great.
The next day i was catching up with some chores in the garden which included a lot of pruning and carrying all manner of stuff around the place. And I strained my back lifting a large pot of basil into a waist high garden bed. You guessed it...footing not good and hurrying...result slight twinge. Not a second thought until the next day when i was running some 300m reps. It really only started bothering me on my cool down and the last two or three 300s. Anyway, it has bothered me for the rest of the week and, of course, i was still weak and sore in various bits from the Maidenwell effort. So, the combination of Maidenwell 56km, not enough recovery and too much gardening, has led to some worrisome niggles..to be sure.
On Sunday I got through 45km and my back actually warmed up with my major bugbear being my sore quads. So looking forward to some challenging running next week.
